Lets set sail together to discover the new feature of Salesforce Einstein Search currently available for all Lightning Salesforce users.
Understanding Einstein Search
Einstein Search is an enhanced version of Global Search that delivers more accurate and relevant results.
Einstein Search has a lot of benefits, but it’s important to understand its limitations as well. Here are some key things to keep in mind:
- Einstein Search currently only works with certain types of fields: text, email, phone, URL, picklist, and multi-select picklist. And certain fields, such as encrypted fields, aren’t searchable with Einstein Search.
- Einstein Search doesn’t support all languages. If you’re using Salesforce in a language other than English, you may not be able to take advantage of all of Einstein Search’s features. Only the following languages are supported: English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, Simplified Chinese, Spanish, and Traditional Chinese.
- It takes about 15 minutes for new records to show up in search results.
Setting up Einstein Search
There’s no additional cost for Einstein Search. It’s on by default with Lightning Experience with several editions of Salesforce.
You can configure the user settings through the following steps:
- Go to Setup
- In the Quick Find box, enter “Einstein Search”
- Then select “Settings”
- From this page you can choose the features you want to add and opt-out of by enabling or disabling them
Einstein AI Search
To use search with AI you have to enable Einstein Generative AI and the related permissions for each user. You need to also have Search Answers enabled from Salesforce to have the full AI search functionality. This gives AI Generated responses to your Salesforce users.
To Setup Einstein AI Search go to
- Setup
- Then in the Quick find box type in “Einstein Search”
- Select Settings
- Then select AI-Generated Search Answers
You can get results from many different sources and even have AI generated responses for Experience Builder sites.
To turn it on for your Experience builder sites
- Type in “Sites” in the Quick find box
- Select “All sites“,
- Select your site from the Sites list which will take you to your Site workspace
- In your Site workspace select “Administration”
- Then Preferences
- Then select Allow AI-Generated Search Answers for Knowledge
You will need the Search bar and Results Layout components in your Site for a Lightning based site. And for an Aura Site you need to add the Global Search Results component.
The Einstein AI Search requires up to 24 hours before it will be active on your Site.
Security Considerations
Permission Management
As with any Salesforce feature, it’s important to ensure that users only have access to the data they need to do their jobs. This is especially true for Einstein Search, which can potentially surface sensitive information in search results. Make sure that you have the appropriate permission sets and profiles in place to restrict access to sensitive data.
Data Privacy
In addition to permission management, data privacy is another important consideration when using Einstein Search. Make sure that you are following best practices for data privacy, such as encrypting or masking sensitive data and complying with relevant regulations like GDPR.
Troubleshooting Common Issues
When using Salesforce Einstein Search, you may encounter some common issues that can be resolved by following some best practices. Here are some tips to help you troubleshoot these issues:
1. Incomplete or inaccurate search results
If you are not getting the search results you expect, try refining your search query. Use specific keywords or phrases that are relevant to your search, and use the search operators (such as AND, OR, NOT) to narrow down your results. You can also use wildcards and fuzzy matching to find similar words or phrases.
2. Slow search performance
If your search is taking too long to return results, try optimizing your search configuration. Use the best practices recommended by Salesforce to improve your search performance. For example, you can use the search index to speed up your search, or use the Einstein Search Manager to customize your search settings.
